Although colon cancer usually shows no sign of being present , there are some symptoms that tend to appear in the minority.  These symptoms may include rectal bleeding , abdominal pain , diarrhea, constipation or significant weight loss . Who is at risk of colon cancer ? Colon cancer is usually associated with more than 50 years (men or women), but it is sometimes seen in younger people. Family history of colon cancer may also have an effect on a person is more prone to this problem or not , although the statistics suggest that most victims of the disease have no family history. Men and women have the same chances of getting colon cancer. How colon cancer diagnosed ? Small often developed from non-cancerous tumors that are called polyps in the colon, colon cancer can be prevented from actually doing these polyps removed. Removing these polyps usually made adjuring the test undergo a colonoscopy, in which a flexible tube with an attached at the end ( colonoscopy ) camera is inserted into the patient's intestine . However, according to the U.S. National Cancer Institute, colonoscopy can be done with : computed tomography (CT ) , magnetic resonance imaging tomography (CT) or magnetic (MIR ), the creation of a virtual colonoscopy. Although colonoscopy may be some advantages to offer to the other events of the colon, which have some disadvantages , as does long - a procedure in which the preparation is unpleasant for the patient and, where appropriate, the need for sedation . The effects can be pretty nasty , both cramps and swelling that exists during the first two hours after the test. A full recovery can be expected within 24 hours.  It should also be noted that colonoscopy , complications can include the possibility of bleeding or perforation of the intestine, although it is generally rare to hear . Because of these unpleasant drawbacks , this is probably the reason why only half of the more than 50 years should be given a colonoscopy test , we decided not to take one. Virtual colonoscopy is now an alternative to colonoscopy where the benefits are that the procedure is less uncomfortable for the patient, and no need for sedation , though virtual colonoscopy also has its drawbacks ( no tissue samples can be taken, polyps not be removed during the test ) . Anyway , colonoscopy or virtual colonoscopy can be used to find polyps, which in turn lead to its elimination.
